However, one of the things that worried me was the cost of living. Many people told me that living in Boston would be expensive. I have lived here a few months now and realize its actually not too expensive if you know where to go. I want to share 4 tips and tricks with you to help you save some money: 1. Accommodation A good place to stay is important for everyone, seeing as our home is where we spend a lot of our time. For students, there are many choices: from a studio apartment to shared apartments to homestays. Studio Apartment The average rent price of your own studio apartment ranges in price depending on the location, but generally, it is an expensive option. If you do choose to stay in an apartment, you also have to buy all of your own furniture and house appliances which adds even more costs to this option. Shared apartments–a Hult students’ favorite. Typically 3-4 Hult students will live together in an apartment which lowers the monthly expenses. This way of living also give you an opportunity to get to know other people better. The average price per person in a shared apartment is usually much cheaper than renting a studio apartment. Homestay Another option is homestay. Homestay is when you rent a private room in a persons house, sharing the communal areas like the kitchen and bathroom. The advantage of staying in a homestay is that you don’t have to buy any furniture because the owner provides everything. You can arrive with just your luggage, and when you leave you can just go without having to do anything. The typical price for a homestay in Boston is generally cheaper than both shared and studio apartments. 2. Transportation Boston is one of the cities in the United States that encourages people to use public transport. Rather than using Uber, or driving around the city, students choose to use ‘T’ or ‘Train’ to travel around Boston. Beside ‘T’, there are also buses to take you around the city which works out much cheaper than using an Uber. ‘T’ also have weekly or monthly passes that allow you to travel  for an unlimited time during the week or month. For weekly passes, it costs $21.25 and for monthly passes, it costs $84.50. Although Uber can be very convenient, using the train is an alternative solution when you want to save money. 3. Shopping There are many shopping avenues in Boston, ranging from the luxurious brands at Simon Copley Place, Newbury Streets, to outlets at Assembly Rows. But one of the best ways to shop in Boston is during a holiday season, or on certain days like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, New Year, and Veteran’s Days. During those days, stores typically offer a discount ranging from 15% to 75% w- a great way to save money. 4. Groceries and home goods Everyone needs food! To save money, we have to cook rather than going out to eat. Before going to the store, make a list of the things to buy so that you can save time, reduce impulse buys, and only buy the things that you actually need. Buying groceries and home goods in bulk can also save money. Buying in bulk also cuts down how often you have to shop, which also saves the transportation fee if the grocery store is not walkable distance from where you live. These four things, although they seem ordinary and simple, can actually save us a lot of money when we have a tight budget. Considering the majority of us are international students, which means we cannot work in the United States during our program, we lose our inflow of income that we usually have when we were working. Therefore, through these simple steps, we can reduce the expense of living and save more to do the things that we actually want to do. Cady At the beginning of my third observation at the Child Development Center, I decided to observe a three-year-old girl that I will call Cady. I chose her because of her irrepressible attitude, which shown through in all of her actions and loudly voiced opinions. Throughout the semester not only did I gain developmental information about Cady, I gained some background information as well. She is the youngest child in the CDC, having only turned three during the last semester. Not only is she the youngest child at the CDC, she is the youngest of five children at home. Cognitive Compared to the other three-year-olds at the CDC, Cady is in some ways ahead and in other ways behind in her cognitive development. Upon it rests a large figure, with a hat of straw and a full piece wrapped around her breasts , stomach, back and hips. This material seems enticing to the water that clings on to it for dear life. I refocus my eyes on the drop and the water licks its lips with a deep pleasure. A taunting temptation, but surely, I will not be able to survive. The blackening water begins to turn impatient as I ponder my thoughts. Is it safe? Where else could I go but down? It waits for me to fall and the sky begins to hurl gusts of angry wind towards me, with a menacing growl a horrid sensation fills my bones as I am inched closer to my death. In blind faith I trust my treacherous instincts. In return, the cold water moans in a satisfaction as I take the last step away from my safety zone and part from the aching board that creaks with age. It has watched this same scene on replay hundreds of times a day. My world now plummets into the unknown, leading to an unforgiving defeat. I sink through the oceanic sky as the emerald sun begins to set beneath the fickle horizon. Relinquishing the last of my identity. For surely it has won yet another victory. Another war. Another battle. Another life. Free falling. Plummeting. Plunging. The blurred figures and colors surround me and my eyes cannot focus on their unpredictable patterns that lie just outside my personal tornado. Distorted images cloud my vision as I claw at the water that wrestles me into a headlock. The foggy water shows no signs of mercy or allowing my escape; only hate and bitterness toward my soul. Pulling me down further and holding me by the legs, I struggle to kick to the surface, but it continues to grow farther and farther away. I struggle for air. The liquid flames licking my shoulders, eyes pleading, but no one sees and no one helps. The water is too strong; there is no turning back and almost as a reassurance, the water rages on. Galloping across my body like horses on a dirt track, the vicious foam stampedes across my bare flesh. Coughing and heaving my lungs try to revolt. I am drowning in blackness, suffocating. Helpless, I fight for my survival and reach to the top, waiting for my revival. Sickening. Perpetual. Suspicion. In front of an impassive crowd, I seek for the non-existent attention, but there is no response in sight. Eternally searching for a single spot of light but I remain astray. With eyes closing I look up to find a sudden brightness has appeared. The sun is crystallized on the waters misleading surface. My soul immediately strives for its mysterious presence and the light begins to fade. I rush to the dimming luminosity as it quickly begins to slip away from my grasp, and suddenly a pain so deep within, earth shattering, rippled throughout me. My body yearned for its closeness. Realization washed over me and I wanted to pull it tighter within me and hold it there forever. The thick water that had filled my lungs before was cringing from the sudden gust of air. The water retreated like a fallen angel would have in the presence of God. Releasing me from its horrifying grasp, I had brokethrough the masked surface which taunted me so easily before. My arms flew across the water reaching for the earth’s gentle caress that would soon be against my pained skin. A calming reassurance of my safety. The earthen veil finally takes its chance to grab me from the evil that now lay beside me. The concrete, warm and protective, has never felt so inviting before now. My numb but grateful body lay still for a moment to praise the earth for saving me, yet again, during my Leap of Faith off the tall, oblong board of truth.

Video Games Effect On Heart In order to determine the effects of video games on the heart, we must look at several different things. First, we must determine which specific areas we want to investigate. Looking at increased heart rate and blood pressure, we need to determine the average maximum heart rate for the age group being tested. We must determine what factors can cause one's heart rate to increase, and we must look at the current studies in regard to the various social effects of video and other electronic games. The main way that we increase our heart rate is through exercise, and even then health care professionals recognize the importance of pacing yourself. In order to pace yourself, you must determine your target heart rate. To do this, you must measure your pulse periodically as you exercise and stay within 50 to 75 percent of you maximum heart rate. A simple rule of thumb is if you can talk and walk at the same time, you are not working too hard. If you can sing and maintain your level of effort, you are probably not working hard enough. If you get out of breath quickly, you are probably working too hard, especially if you have to stop and catch your breath. The target heart rate chart is broken down from twenty years of age to seventy years. The target heart rate zone of fifty to seventy-five percent for people of twenty years is 100-150 beats per minute with the average maximum heart rate of 100% at 200 beats per minute. The second main contributor to increasing your heart rate is through stress. Doctors have determined that the problem with stress is that our body thinks we are still cavemen. There hasn't been time for us to evolve physiologically from the high-threat, short-duration stress situations that primitive man faced to the relatively low-threat, long-duration stresses of modern society. When your body receives a message that you are under stress, it automatically thinks you are going to do one of two things, fight or run away. The body does not know how to temper its response to deal with the week-long pressure of dooming deadlines or other stresses that we deal with daily. This overkill response, in time, takes a physical toll, especially on the cardiovascular system. When you are under stress, you are not thriving. Your blood pressure is elevated, your blood clotting mechanism is working at full force, your heart is beating faster than normal and your metabolic rate is up. Keep it for hours and you will be exhausted, for years and you are headed for a heart attack. Doctors place stress as the secondary risk factor for heart disease. Stress and video games often go hand in hand. During the last several decades, video games have emerged as one of the most popular forms of adolescent entertainment. In the United States alone, video game revenues total ten billion dollars annually. On the average, children who have home video games play with them approximately ninety minutes a day. Some of the trends in game playing are disturbing some observers. A 1993 study asked 357 seventh and eight graders to list their preferences among five categories of video games. The study found that fantasy violence topped the list at thirty-two percent. It also find that boys who play violent games tend to have a lower self-concept in the areas of academic ability, peer acceptance and behavior. The most interesting is the possible link between playing violent video games and subsequent aggressive behavior. Boys aged eight to fourteen are the core audience for video games. Another study found that a series of three video games played under three increasing levels of stress elicited progressively higher values of blood pressure and heart rate. Both the race and gender of the subjects affected the reactivity. Heavy video game players have a difficult time with the regard to discharging aggression, and have a lower frustration tolerance. It has been found that hostility is increased when playing highly aggressive video games and mildly aggressive games. Subjects playing the high aggression game were much more anxious than the other subjects. In one study, the researcher found that not only did the heart rates of the participants increase while playing video games, but also the rates of those merely watching the game increased. The study demonstrated clear differences between playing the violent game over a non-violent game. The study also demonstrated strong differences between playing and watching the games in violent verses non-violent games.
